“When we first arrived, we thought the toys we had brought would be enough. But the moment we started handing them out, we realized they weren’t — there were too many children and not enough to go around. It didn’t feel right. So we got into a car, drove to a nearby shop, and bought stacks of colouring books and crayons. It was a small thing, but when we returned and saw the kids begin to colour, something shifted. Their quiet smiles, their focus, the way they clutched their books — it made everything worth it. You come in thinking you’re there to give, but what they give you in return — their strength, calm, and joy — stays with you far longer.”
“We brought toys thinking they’d bring a little joy — and they did — but as we looked around, it became clear that they weren’t enough. Some kids were still waiting, watching hopefully, and that moment really hit me. So without hesitation, we found a shop nearby and bought as many colouring books and crayons as we could. When we came back and handed them out, the way the children smiled, flipped through the pages, and started colouring — it was beautiful. That moment reminded me that even the smallest acts of kindness can mean the world to someone else. Bargad taught me that joy isn’t always in grand gestures — sometimes, it’s in a box of crayons and a little shared attention.”
In the middle of long hospital stays and painful treatments, a tiny yellow truck became this little warrior’s favorite companion. Every time the nurses walked in with medicine, he would hold it tighter — almost as if it gave him courage. His mother, smiling despite her tired eyes, told us, “He believes his truck will take him home one day.”
On the day we brought her crayons, she barely looked up — but when we returned with colouring books, she finally reached out. She sat on her hospital bed and filled each page slowly, carefully, with a calmness that made everyone pause. For a child who’s barely five, fighting cancer feels unfair — but in that moment, she was just a girl lost in art. That’s the healing we hope to bring through Bargad.
